Académie des Professions DIEFFE et Berto’s : une collaboration pour le futur des jeunes
There are good stories that are a pleasure to tell, such as when the world of education meets that of work, creating a spark that leads to important opportunities.
A perfect example is the DIEFFE Cooperative - Jobs Academy, founded in 1985, which has been working alongside people and businesses for over 30 years, in order to promote the professional and personal development of young people looking for work and people already working for companies. In January 2014, the numerous DIEFFE establishments in Padua were united in a single Educational Centre, which quickly became a reference point in the Veneto region, and beyond, with a turnover of more than 2000 students per year.
In just two years, the founders turned a disused warehouse in the industrial area of the town into an elegant building, which in a short space of time became a modern and innovative school, with a lecture hall, laboratories, classrooms, multimedia classrooms and professional kitchens.
There are numerous courses for adults; the many daytime and evening classes on offer give people who attend the Academy the opportunity to build a qualified professional future: for example, the 600-hour cookery course, courses in natural cooking, vegetarian and vegan cooking, courses for sommeliers, pizza makers, bakers and artisan ice cream makers, courses for obtaining vocational qualifications as a Brewer and beer sommelier, pastry chef, cake designer or sugar artist.
The Academy also offers courses to enable the administering and sale of food products, which run alongside contemporaneous training programmes: a course for bar managers, a course to qualify as an accounting clerk, courses in web marketing, social media, web graphic design. Furthermore, DIEFFE also offers a five-year comprehensive high school, where Food Service Technicians can obtain a diploma in food and wine or restaurant service and sales, and three-year vocational schools (with the possibility of five-year integration) specialising in cookery, bar service and bread-making.
Thanks to its training programmes, the DIEFFE Academy can be considered a hands-on school: in addition to obviously considering theory as fundamental, the didactic method also considers hands-on learning, dexterity, experiential learning, mistakes, practice makes perfect and first-hand cognitive learning as indispensable factors in the learning process.
