Lübecker Marina Yacht-Club
La Cucina made-to-measure for lovers of the Baltic Sea.
Lübeck has overlooked the river Trave, which flows into the Baltic Sea, since 700 AD, and is a typical jewel of German Gothic architecture. In the 12th century, it was the capital of the Hanseatic League and today, together with Kiel, is the largest city in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Like all large commercial and maritime areas in Northern Germany, over the centuries the city has enjoyed periods of glory and suffered from ruinous wars, the last being the Allied bombing in 1942. The city, 80% of which has been rebuilt, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular tourist destination, also thanks to the fact that it was the setting for one of the most famous novels of all time, "Buddenbrooks" by Thomas Mann, who was born here. Today, Lübeck cultivates its image as a cosmopolitan city and tourist destination, as well as boasting flourishing commercial and maritime businesses: the Yacht Club, founded in the Bay in 1898, is a living example. When businessmen Dirk Gerdes, Ralf Schulte and Gerd Potyka started works on the buildings, pontoons, storage areas, new marina, with 45 moorings for sailing and motor boats, and to dream of a large restaurant for the Yacht Club, in their minds they were constructing an exclusive establishment. The idea was to recreate a small marina similar to those found in typical Danish ports, and that as well as being a gateway to the sea, it would become part of Lübeck’s city life. When work started on the project, they already had a chef, 30-year-old Florian Neumann (regional, German and then world champion, taking 1st place at the Champchefs 2009 World Skills Challenge in Calgary, Canada) and architect Ralf Schulte, who was responsible for the Yacht Club’s interiors. The architect was fascinated by "La Cucina", Berto's new made-to-measure division: he therefore decided to go to Tribano with Gerd Potyka and, together with the Berto's engineers and technicians, start turning their dream professional kitchen into steel profiles and state-of-the-art technology. They jumped at the chance offered by the La Cucina concept, creating a made-to-measure workplace designed to meet the aesthetic, functional and component needs of the restaurant managers, designers and chefs. Together with the Managing Director, Marco Dal Pont, and Luca Bertogno, Berto's export area manager for Central and Northern Europe, it took just a few weeks to turn their ideas into reality. The Marina Yacht Club was inaugurated a few weeks ago, in the presence of the Mayor of Lübeck, various authorities and over 350 guests, and chef Florian Neumann was finally able to use his exclusive La Cucina, custom built for this restaurant overlooking the river Wakenitz.
